Kirby Air Ride Review

A short review about the 2003 GameCube racing game.

Kirby Air Ride is a 2003 racing game on the GameCube where you can race around in a regular race, race in a top down view and race around in a big map.

Air Ride is the first mode you can try out if you want to race by yourself or with your family or friends. When you enter the level, the only thing you need to do for controlling your vehicle is pressing the A button to stop and get an extra boost. There are 9 race tracks in this mode called Fantasy Meadows, Celestial Valley, Sky Sands, Frozen Hillside, Magma Flows, Beanstalk Park, Machine Passage, Checker Knights and Nebula Belt.

Top Ride is the second mode where you race at a bird’s eye view on small courses. There are power-ups you can get to mess up the cpus or human players. The levels in this mode are mostly generic locations with generic names called Grass, Sand, Sky, Fire, Light, Water and Metal.

The last mode is the most well known mode and it’s called City Trial. It takes place in a fully 3D city and you can do whatever you want to within 5 or 7 minutes. If you want to collect power-ups from colored boxes, you can do that. Sometimes there are hidden pieces of 2 legendary vehicles you can find and if you get 3 of them you get a vehicle that can fly called the Dragoon or one that goes fast when you charge it up called the Hydra. There are also random events like meteor showers on the city, a UFO flying through or a thief stealing items.

This game is still fun to play and if you have a GameCube this is a good buy for your collection.

Review Score: 8/10
